My mum recently set up a challenge for me. She wanted me to make a recipe without sugar and that was pretty healthy. My first challenge was to find a recipe that’s:
Tasty
Easy to make
That my whole family would like
That didn't have any strange ingredients
The thing is I love sweet things and I really wanted to make something that was sweet, but how would I do that exactly? Some of my go to sweet things are donuts, cookies, cinnamon buns, brownies and pastries. These unfortunately contain a lot of SUGAR!!!
So I went online and did some research to find some inspiration and what popped was up my perfect solution - NUTELLA!!! And why Nutella? Because it’s sweet, it's perfect for my whole family, and it can be used on or added to nearly anything such as:
Smoothie bowls
Porridge
Toast
Bananas
Pancakes
And much more....
But Nutella is unhealthy, I hear you ask! Well not this one my friend - it’s palm oil free and there is no added sugar and it's completely plant based. Plus some of the benefits of eating hazelnuts are: they are a good form of dietary fibre, they also support heart health, and are known to reduce inflammation.
Ingredients
1 cup of roasted and peeled hazelnuts (I had to peal and roast my ones)
7 soft pitted dates
6 tbsps of cacao
¼ cup agave syrup (or honey)
¼ cup oat milk ( or other plant milk )
Dash of coconut oil if you need the mix to be a little wetter for blending
Instructions
Put the nuts in a food processor and blend until it turns into a smooth butter.
Now add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
Put it into a jar and put it in the fridge until you wanna use it.
This was an easy recipe to make, not quite as nice as naughty Nutella but a great healthier option.
